Accurate Calorimetry of GRB030329

چکیده
We report late-time observations of the radio afterglow of GRB 030329. The light curves show a clear achromatic flattening at 50 days after the explosion. We interpret this flattening as resulting from the blast wave becoming transrelativistic. Modeling of this transition enables us to make estimates of the energy content of the burst, regardless of the initial jet structure or the distribution of initial Lorentz factors of the ejecta. We find, in accordance with other events, that GRB030329 is well-described by an explosion with total energy of a few times 10 erg expanding into a circumburst medium with a density of order unity. The Diversity of Cosmic Explosions: γ-Ray Bursts and Type Ib/c Supernovae
The death of massive stars and the processes which govern the formation of compact remnants are not fully understood. Observationally, this problem may be addressed by studying different classes of cosmic explosions and their energy sources. Here we discuss recent results on the energetics of γ-ray bursts (GRBs) and Type Ib/c Supernovae (SNe Ib/c). In particular, radio observations of GRB030329...
متن کاملA New Astrophysical “Triptych”: GRB030329/SN2003dh/URCA-2
We analyze the data of the Gamma-Ray Burst/Supernova GRB030329/SN2003dh system obtained by HETE-2 (gcn [1]), R-XTE (gcn [2]), XMM (Tiengo et al. [3]) and VLT (Hjorth et al. [4]) within our theory (Ruffini et al. [5] and references therein) for GRB030329. By fitting the only three free parameters of the EMBH theory, we obtain the luminosity in fixed energy bands for the prompt emission and the a...
متن کاملSearch algorithm for a gravitational wave signal in association with Gamma Ray Burst GRB030329 using the LIGO detectors
One of the brightest Gamma Ray Burst ever recorded, GRB030329, occurred during the second science run of the LIGO detectors. At that time, both interferometers at the Hanford, WA LIGO site were in lock and acquiring data. The data collected from the two Hanford detectors was analyzed for the presence of a gravitational wave signal associated with this GRB. This paper presents a detailed descrip...
متن کاملThe X–ray afterglow of GRB030329 at early and late times
Thanks to its extraordinary brightness, the X-ray afterglow of GRB030329 could be studied by XMM-Newton up to two months after the prompt Gamma-ray emission. We present the results of two XMM-Newton observations performed on May 5 and 29, as well as an analysis of the Rossi-XTE data of the early part of the afterglow, discussing in particular the stability of the X–ray spectrum and presenting u...
متن کاملComparison of indirect calorimetry, the Fick method, and prediction equations in estimating the energy requirements of critically ill patients.
BACKGROUND Accurate measurement of resting energy expenditure (REE) is helpful in determining the energy needs of critically ill patients requiring nutritional support. Currently, the most accurate clinical tool used to measure REE is indirect calorimetry, which is expensive, requires trained personnel, and has significant error at higher inspired oxygen concentrations. OBJECTIVE The purpose ...
